The University of Utah is committed to fostering a safe and respectful campus environment. In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, we are dedicated to transparency and accountability in addressing hazing incidents. This report provides detailed information on hazing incidents reported to campus security authorities or local police, including the nature of the incidents, the organizations involved, and the outcomes of investigations. By openly sharing this information, we aim to raise awareness, promote prevention, and ensure the well-being of all students. Together, we can create a campus culture that prioritizes safety, respect, and dignity for everyone.
Recent Incidents
Date of incident: Fall 2024/Spring 2025
Description: Hazing of new members with alcohol, manual labor, intimidation.

Date investigation was initiated: 1/29/2025
Date investigation ended with a finding: 3/19/2025
Findings of the institution: Sigma Nu was found in violation of the hazing of new members during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 member recruitment cycle. Sigma Nu Fraternity chapter violated University Policy 6-402 (III)(B)(2)(a); University Policy 6-400 Section III(D)(6)(a-b); University Policy 6-400 Section III(D)(21); University Policy 6-400 Section III(D)(22); and University Policy 6-400 Section III(D)(17).
Sanctions: Termination of the chapter until at least Summer 2031. Termination of University recognition and full removal from being a student group on the University of Utah campus.
