Community Standards Courses
At the University of Utah, we want students' continued education to be successful and engaging, and we care about the safety and well-being of our campus community. With this in mind, the University of Utah requires all students to complete Sexual Assault Prevention training once a year.
Additional trainings are available to students, covering topics such as:
- Mental Well-being
- Understanding Alcohol & Other Drugs
- Hazing Awareness and Prevention
- Student Expression
Students can access the training platform by clicking on the Community Standards Courses tile in CIS or navigating directly to Vector Solutions and logging in with their uNID and CIS password.
Mandatory Trainings
Incoming students will have a hold placed on their record that will only be removed when they complete Part 1 of this course. If the course is not completed, this hold will prevent students from registering for a second semester.
Continuing students will be assigned additional training annually with an accompanying registration hold.
An alternative training, Empower You, is available for students who have experienced prior trauma and may find the course content emotionally or psychologically triggering.
More information will be sent to students' Umail accounts when training is assigned.
Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates
This training is mandatory for all incoming undergraduate students.
Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates engages undergraduate students in fostering healthy relationships and preparing them to recognize and respond to sexual assault and harassment when it occurs.his training
Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students
This training is mandatory for all incoming graduate and professional students.
Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students supports graduate students' interactions with advisors, faculty members, peers, and undergraduate students (including responding to disclosures).
Sexual Assault Prevention Ongoing: Healthy Relationships
This refresher training is mandatory for continuing students who completed any Sexual Assault Prevention training more than one year ago.
Sexual Assault Prevention Ongoing Ongoing emphasizes healthy relationship skills, tactics for bystander intervention among close friends, and survivor empathy.
Optional Training & Digital Badge
Graduate and undergraduate students will be offered additional, optional in-depth trainings. Those who complete all mandatory and optional trainings will be awarded our Community Standards Competency digital badge. This micro-credential can be added to resumes and professional portfolios.
All courses are optional additional training offered to all degree-seeking students.
Mental Health & Wellbeing
The course focuses on encouraging students to question their beliefs, trust their instincts, and recognize red flags so that they’ll be ready to take a proactive approach to mental health and wellness.
Hazing Awareness and Prevention
This course gives students a better understanding about hazing so that they can identify when it’s happening and possibly prevent incidents in the future.
Alcohol & Other Drugs
Within this course, we will challenge learners to consider the impacts of alcohol and drugs and the way they play out in social settings, and how to set boundaries for themselves regarding substance use and healthy relationships.
Student Expression
This course provides an overview of the intersections between free speech principles and campus life, including discussions of academic freedom, limitations to free speech, and helpful information for engaging in activism as a student.

Assignments
Students will receive an invitation in their University email (Umail) when courses are assigned to them.
New students will receive assignments at least 30 days before they are due.
Completing
Courses
To access the classes, login to CIS and click on the "Community Standards Courses" tile.
The tile will remain on your CIS page even after you have completed the course in case you wish to refer back to them for resources.

Surveys & Confidentiality
The course may include surveys to help personalize your experience and measure students’ attitudes and behaviors. All survey responses are confidential; the university will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will never see individual students’ answers.

We understand that the content of the Sexual Assault Prevention course may be psychologically or emotionally triggering for some students. In those circumstances, students may complete a Course Waiver Request.
Upon submitting the request, students will be directed to pertinent policies and resources and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action will reach out to the student to provide additional information.
